Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 


  1. Recognize indications for Apheresis Treatment.
  2. Apply evidence-based medicine to make decisions in the realm of Apheresis Medicine.
  3. Identify practices that will decrease complications during Apheresis Treatment.
  4. Describe advances and changing patterns in Apheresis treatment modalities.
  5. Explain how Apheresis may be applied within diverse medical fields.
  6. Compare the different approaches to therapeutic apheresis along with the benefits and risk for each approach.
  7. List the different modalities of Therapeutic Apheresis Treatments.
  8. State the differences between centrifugal technologies and filtration technologies in TA.
  9. Recognize and use the categories (I-IV) that form indications for TA as written in the American Society for Apheresis International guidelines.
  10. List the indications for Extracorporeal Photopheresis.
  11. Apply clinical and administrative knowledge and best practices necessary to set up and maintain a Therapeutic Apheresis Service.
  12. Describe the attributes of varying types of Apheresis equipment.
  13. Compare the duties of each member of the Therapeutic Apheresis team in hospital-based versus traveling units.
  14. Summarize the role of apheresis treatment for patients with acute liver failure.
  15. Describe the similarities and differences in apheresis treatment in pediatric patients.
  16. Identify successful strategies for transitioning pediatric patients to adult models of care.
