The 17th Annual Therapeutic Apheresis Academy offers an immersive 2 ½-day multidisciplinary program designed to foster interprofessional collaboration through innovative teaching approaches. The general session will explore current practices, the latest advancements in the field of apheresis medicine, and actionable strategies for launching new apheresis services. The Hands-on workshop will provide practical clinical applications and valuable insights from experienced professionals. Attendees will also benefit from the expertise of nationally acclaimed apheresis specialists and seasoned frontline clinicians.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. LIst different attributes of varying types of apheresis equipment and state the differences between centrifugal and filtration technologies.
  2. Apply evidence-based American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) International guidelines and identify each of the categories (I-IV) that form indications for TA to make decisions in the realm of Apheresis Medicine.
  3. List multiple practices that will decrease complications during apheresis treatment.
  4. Identify and list new advances and changing patterns in apheresis treatment modalities.
  5. List how apheresis medicine is applied in clinical uses within multiple and diverse medical fields.
  6. Identify the changing role of apheresis treatment for patients with thrombotic microangiopathies (TMA) in the era of novel targeted drug therapies.
  7. Explain the role of apheresis techniques in the collection of stem cells and lymphocytes to facilitate stem cell transplantation, CAR-T and gene therapy.
  8. Describe and analyze ethical issues and resource constraints with emerging biotherapies .
  9. Apply apheresis techniques to reduce complications post-solid organ transplantation (lung, liver, heart).
  10. Describe the similarities and differences in apheresis treatment in pediatric patients compared to adults.
  11. Apply clinical and administrative knowledge and best practices necessary to set up and maintain an apheresis service.
