Overview
To advance the University of Virginia’s national leadership in competency-based medical education (CBME), we propose institutional adoption and support for the ACGME Faculty Development Hub Program, as a core faculty development offering for UVA GME faculty. This program directly addresses one of the most pressing challenges in GME: equipping faculty with the skills needed to design and implement meaningful assessment systems that foster longitudinal development, individualized learning, and early identification of struggling learners. In the initial stage, broader participation by UVA GME leaders in this course will strengthen our faculty development infrastructure, support high-quality coaching and remediation, and position UVA as a model institution for CBME implementation. When the program matures, it will be offered to GME leaders at other institutions, expanding UVA’s excellence and becoming a destination program in medical education in the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. There are over 29 ACGME Faculty Development Hubs across the U. S. and internationally, but no institution in the Commonwealth of Virginia currently offers such a program.
